Cost efficiencies in P2P

Find ways to make your accounts payable processes more efficient and cost effective

Every exception that occurs in AP/P2P processing costs money

Finance teams currently face a 5.3% productivity gap, where workloads are 3.2% higher, headcounts is 2.1% lower and budgets are 1.7% lower (The Hackett Group, 2026). Because of that, it’s vital for teams to create maximum cost efficiency – delivering the best results with the same, or fewer, resources.

Ways to lower costs in P2P
Cost efficiencies are made by identifying slow processes and devising improvements. In finance, this can mean utilising a supplier portal, automating statement reconciliation to reduce time spent and increase ledger accuracy, using a digital process for data capture to eliminate manual data entry, moving approvals into a system, using an AI to identify key invoice issues earlier, to speed up the processing time.

How to identify process issues
Your reports, reason codes and notes are the fastest way to find ways to improve P2P and AP processes. First, review a large amount of data – perhaps reports from the last year or so. The next step is to look for anomalies, patterns or trends that may indicate recurring problems.

This could include deeper analysis on payment error rate, missing POs, late payments, days to pay, invoice exceptions, one-time suppliers… the list goes on. One example is seeing which suppliers raise the most exceptions, and investigating how those issues are created. The most common cause might be a duplicate that has not been removed from the supplier file which, after investigation, is a recurring issue across the supplier base. The solution: Better duplication controls over the supplier file, and a tighter procedure for removing duplicate entries once discovered.

Applying benchmarks to your data will also help you see where improvements can be made, as can physically mapping out your processes to identify potential bottlenecks. This could be a point where a single person needs to do a job (like an approval), or an element that keeps being slowed due to another system, a too-complex process, or an element that is easily circumvented, only to get stopped further down the process because it is lacking (like a PO).

Why controls are key for cost efficiency
Controls not only ensure that payments are made right, first time. They prevent the need for recovery, for extra supplier communications, corrections, for the fallout that might come from fraud. This increases efficiency, saving costs in the process.

Transaction Risk Intelligence

  • Get the latest information on transaction risk numbers and potential costs.
  • Ask for at-a-glance reports on current invoice risk statuses and processes.
  • Understand the amount of risks assigned to each employee.

Automated Statement Reconciliation

  • Ask about your statement reconciliation coverage.
  • Understand key liabilities and where missing invoices often hide.
  • Identify suppliers most likely to have discrepancies on their statements.

Supplier Risk Intelligence

  • Check supplier file cleansing information and see where the gaps need to close.
  • Know which suppliers have a consistently low credit score month on month.
  • Keep abreast of bank and detail changes to your suppliers.

Any AI that has MCP functionality can use this. That includes Copilot, Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT.

If your AI has MCP functionality, then yes, our connector will work with it.

No, coding is not required – we’ve done all to work to create the MCP connector used for AI connectivity. In terms of the software, FISCAL is configured and deployed by our implementation team – your IT department doesn’t need to build or maintain anything, aside from setting up a data feed. We handle the setup, system connections and ongoing platform management. Your finance team can be up and running without writing a single line of code. Our team will also help you connect your AI to our software.

Pricing is tailored to your organisation – it depends on factors such as transaction volumes, supplier file size, and which modules you need. What we can say is that FISCAL is consistently self-funding: the payment leakage, recovered credits and operational efficiencies identified typically outweigh the investment within the first year.

We offer a P2P Insights Report for prospective customers – a no-obligation analysis of your data that gives you a clear picture of risk exposure and likely ROI before you commit to anything.

We connect to your ERP or transaction data system and run every invoice, supplier record and employee match against hundreds of risk factors, historical patterns and external data sources. Risks are flagged, prioritised and presented to your team to review and resolve. You stay in control – we make sure nothing slips through.

Yes. FISCAL can handle data from one or multiple ERP(s). We’ve built the platform to fit around your processes, not the other way around. Implementation is handled by our team, and we’ve completed 450+ deployments across a wide range of organisations and system environments.

No – and that’s by design. FISCAL is built to augment your team, not replace it. We automate the time-consuming, repetitive work so your AP team can focus on exceptions, supplier relationships and process improvement. Teams are able use their saved time to perform more proactive, analytical work alongside core duties.

We work with organisations around the world, from government and healthcare to construction, retail and more. Any organisation with large spend and/or high invoice volumes can benefit from our solution. Our algorithms are trained on your specific AP data, which means the risk intelligence your team receives is relevant and reliable – not generic.

ERP systems are built to process transactions, not interrogate them. They apply basic validation rules at the point of entry, but they don’t cross-reference historical patterns, external data sources, supplier behaviour or employee-supplier relationships over time. FISCAL’s algorithms are purpose-built for AP risk – trained on over 19 years of accounts payable data across hundreds of organisations. The risks ERPs miss – subtle duplicates, dormant supplier fraud, sanctions exposure, unreconciled credits – are exactly what FISCAL finds. Most new customers discover (and resolve) issues within their first cycle, despite already having an ERP in place.
